Abstract
Contract Bridge is a trick-taking card game which, together with Chess, are the only mind sports officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. In the present paper the author utilizes a combination of the Triangular and Trapezoidal Fuzzy Numbers and of the Center of Gravity defuzzification technique for assessing the performance of different clubs and of men and women Bridge players. This new fuzzy assessment method is illustrated in practice by presenting two applications from tournaments of the Hellenic Bridge Federation and it is validated through the parallel use of two traditional assessment methods, the calculation of the mean values and of the PA index. All these methods are not proposed of course for replacing the well-established official scoring techniques of the game of Bridge, but they could be useful for statistical evaluation in a variety of cases (clubs, geographical regions, men and women, senior and young, old and new players, etc).
